Urban vs. Classic Art
Good Morning. I'm back from my little trip to the southwest and I'm quite relaxed from it. It was a brilliant week, with lots of great conversations, good food, sunshine and strolls along rivers. The new week is packed with art related stuff. For the next three days I'm at the Medientreffpunkt Mitteldeutschland representing my club Kreatives Leipzig and taking pictures.
I took the picture above at Leipzigs Spinnerei during the last April weekend. I thought it was a good juxtaposition of Classic and Urban Art.

LE Plagwitz - Murals
Leipzigs Plagwitz neighborhood is becoming the place for artists. And even I am pondering the possibility to move there. These murals are on two sides of an industrial building.
Plagwitz contains a lot of old industrial buildings (the Spinnerei is THE place for artists in Leipzig) which are turned into living and working spaces. I think I would love to live there.

Here's looking at you, Babe! - Schau mir ins Auge, Kleines!
This artwork stands in the agra Park, which is shared by Leipzig and Markkleeberg, on Leipzigs side. I took the pic on one of Chris and my Sunday bike tours. I really like this picture.
Yesterday was quite awful, the only time that I felt okay was while I was drawing/painting. It's funny. In January I tried to instill the habit of drawing everyday, hence the 366 project, but it didn't work. But since the 20th February, the first thing that I do after breakfast is drawing/painting. It has become my form of meditation, it's the only thing to quite my mind.
This reminds me of Rainer Maria Rilke, my favorite poet, who once wrote to a young poet. Following his logic, I find that I need to draw/create, therefore I'm an artist at heart and my art that I create because of this need to create is good, no matter what everyone else thinks.
Anyway, this afternoon I will meet with a student of graphic art. She will help me decide upon
how I build up my portfolio. I'm quite excited about it.

Stylish Company
I'm in very stylish company in this picture. It's actually the shadow of a statue in the castle park of Wolkenburg. Oh, I like this picture soooo much. :-)
Today is another Offline-Sunday (no computer, no phone, no watch) for me and I direly need it. In the last 2 days the Breaking Weeks seemed to accelerate or climax. With this came a realization that...changes things quite a bit for me.
Thursday brought something to a very welcomed finish that I had been working on, on and off, for 4 months. So next week there'll be some changes around here.

Muffin Paper - What a Surprise
I found out this Sunday that I can actually draw. 'What's so surprising about this?', you might ask. Well, I've been told time and again that I can't draw! My parents and my art teachers back in school said so. Imagine my surprise on Sunday at my local coffee shop when I found that I could actually draw this picture of the left over muffin paper within mere 30 minutes or so. So I figure I am capable to draw whatever I want to draw.
I can draw! Wohooo.

21 years of FREEDOM
Today is a very special day for us Germans. We celebrate the 21st Anniversary of our reunion. 21 years of freedom, that's more than half of my life. ;-)
I celebrate this day with sending out postcrossing cards all over the world (to Taiwan, Russia, Brazil and the UK to just name a few of the countries) just because I have the freedom to do so. And with posting this picture of an open iron door. This door is standing at the exact point where on August 19th in 1989 the first part of the Iron Curtain was taken down and East Germans seized the opportunity to become free people during the Pan-European Picnic at the border between Austria and Hungary. I've been to this place just a few days ago and it definitely moved me. I'm really grateful for the freedom that I enjoy now. The freedom to study what I want to study, the freedom to travel wherever I want to go to and to read whatever I want to read, the freedom to speak my mind, the freedom to be me and to live unharmed.
Even today, this freedom can't be taken for granted. There are still many countries in this world where personal freedom is still not possible. And I hope for the people in those countries that they will find the strength to fight peacefully (if possible) for their rights and succeed in it and become free people. We've seen tremendous changes this year with the Arab Spring. I'm really happy for the people who are now free and I cross my fingers for them to make the ongoing changes for the better in their countries peacefully.

Off onto a much needed vacation, therefore 1 1/2 weeks of Sanssouci Park on this blog
Yes, finally a longer vacation. The last "long" vacation I had was 2 years ago in hiking in Ireland. So don't get mad at me if I don't answer or comment on your blog, my Mac will stay offline for 1 1/2 weeks. But since I'm such a nice person I've prepared posts for you, all of them with pictures of Sanssouci Park in Potsdam. Which is quite fitting, because Sanssouci means Without Worries and that's what these two weeks mean to me. No worries, only good food, time to read, walk, draw and taking pictures.

A bicycle made for two
One of my figurines, I just love them and bought them on my language trips to Great Britain back in the late 1990s. Back then I loved to read fantasy books. Now I've been on search for new stories for 1 1/2 years. I have outgrown fantasy and chicklit, even the combination of them is boring now. HELP! Now seriously, I'm craving really good stories, but I somehow seem to be unabled to find them. This is sooooooo frustrating.

At the Easter Islands?
NOPE. Its the big head at the Markkleeberger See.
I'm still moving into my own flat and the bedissue isn't solved. The bed will be switched, which will probably take another week. So let's keep our fingers crossed that the next one will be alright.
However, I've been to a percussion concert yesterday at Leipzigs Music School, which was totally AWESOME. I can't even begin to describe how cool it was. Funny thing, the students were a hundred times better than their teachers. Especially the xylophone / marimba pieces were AMAZING. No idea what I'm talking about? The best thing? The concert was free and the musicians/students really enjoyed to play and show off. They were grinning the whole time. And not only them...
So, if there is a music school in your town, go and enjoy their concerts it's always worth it.
